DESTINATION TOPOLOBAMPO
This is the story of the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway, which was conceived with the intention of linking Kansas City with a port to be at Topolobampo, Mexico. The distance from Kansas City to the selected site at Topolobampo is less that that to any other Pacific Port. This is the story of the planning and construction of the railroad. In 1928, the still unfinished route was sold to the Santa Fe, which completed the line to the Rio Grande border and sold the Mexican portion to Mexico, to become the Chihuahua Pacific. The CHP was finally completed in 1961. The crossing of the Sierra Madre was a great engineering feat.
