A STOCHASTIC MODEL FOR CARBON MONOXIDE CONCENTRATIONS ALONG HIGHWAYS AND STREETS
THIS PAPER SUGGESTS A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) CONCENTRATION NEAR HIGHWAYS AND STREETS. THE CO CONCENTRATION IS TREATED AS A RANDOM VARIABLE WHOSE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION DEPENDS ON THE TRAFFIC FLOW PATTERN, EMISSION RATES OF PASSING CARS, AND DECAY EFFECTS. MEANS AND VARIANCES OF CO CONCENTRATION ARE COMPUTED FOR TWO BASIC TRAFFIC FLOW SITUATIONS. FINALLY, BOUNDS ON THE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION ARE DERIVED UNDER SUITABLE ASSUMPTION ON EMISSION RATES.
