HIGH EARLY STRENGTH OF CONCRETE BY TREATMENT WITH DIRECT CURRENT OF ALTERNATING POLARITY
ELECTRIC HEAT-TREATMENT APPLIED TO FRESH CONCRETE EITHER DIRECTLY OR THROUGH THE REINFORCIMENT CAN SPEED UP THE HARDENING PROCESS WHILE PROVIDING HIGH EARLY STRENGTH. THE EFFECT OF THE TREATMENT IS THREEFOLD, VIZ. INTRODUCTION OF THERMAL ENERGY, ELECTROLYTIC EFFECT, AND OSMOTIC EFFECT. THE RESULTS OF INVESTIGATIONS TO DETERMINE THE PRINCIPAL PARAMETERS AFFECTING HIGH EARLY STRENGTH ARE REPORTED. TESTS WERE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE RELATIVE EFFICIENCY OF TREATMENT WITH D.C. AND A.C. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE LATTER METHOD REQUIRES 170 PERCENT MORE ENERGY AND 3 TIMES AS LONG TO ACHIEVE THE SAME RESULTS, AND THAT FURTHERMORE A FALLING- OFF IN STRENGTH ENSUES AFTER 28 DAYS. THIS DID NOT OCCUR AFTER TREATMENT WITH DIRECT CURRENT AND ALTERNATING POLARITY.
