METROLINER RIDE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
The objective of the program was to determine methods of improving the ride quality of the Metroliner railcars. Two levels of modifications were considered: first, modifications to the existing hardware and second, replacement of the present trucks. In the conduct of the program road tests, track measurement and laboratory dynamic tests were performed on the present Metroliner. The results of these tests were used to aid in the development of a dynamic simulation of the Metroliner, and assist in establishing the nature of track irregularities. Once developed, the simulation was used to evaluate modifications to the present Metroliner and new truck configurations.
