EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF A SILICONE ADMIXTURE ON DURABILITY OF CONCRETE
THIS REPORT PRESENTS INFORMATION ON THE EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF A SILICONE ADMIXTURE, DOW CORNING 777B, ON THE PROPERTIES OF PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE. THE ADMIXTURE WAS EVALUATED FOR ITS EFFECT ON THE FREEZE-THAW RESISTANCE, AIR CONTENT, WORKABILITY, COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH, AND PERMEABILITY OF THE CONCRETE. THE PRIMARY CONCLUSIONS WERE: (1) USE OF THE ADMIXTURE DID NOT ADVERSELY AFFECT THE CONTROL OF THE AIR CONTENT OF THE CONCRETE; AND (2) USE OF THE ADMIXTURE MAY IMPROVE THE FREEZE-THAW RESISTANCE OF AIR-ENTRAINED CONCRETE. /FHWA/
