SHIPBOARD MANPOWER, 1965: A STATISTICAL STUDY OF MEN IN THE PRIVATELY OPERATED U.S. FLAG MERCHANT MARINE
This report describes the size, composition, and employment of the work force manning the privately operated U.S.-Flag Merchant Marine. It summarizes the characteristics ( as of 1965 ) of seagoing personnel and draws comparisons with the findings of an earlier report, shipboard manpower, a statistical study of men in the U.S. Merchant Marine, 1962-1963. The characteristics include man-days worked, positions held, highest license held or rating worked, union and union-management affiliation, age, and length of service. The basic information for the report was developed from U.S. Coast Guard records of employment, biographical, and qualifications data. ( Author )
