AN EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF A "ONE-MAN CONTROL" BRIDGE LAYOUT
The paper describes the second stage of a research study begun in 1973. A bridge design incorporating specific work places for the officers-of-the-watch, the captain and the helmsman was evaluated experimentally through a comparison with a "conventional" bridge layout. Two ferries, in service between Stockholm and Finland and fitted with the systems were tested by ten Swedish mariners in open waters and through the Stockholm Archipelago. The results of the study and their implications are discussed. Order from NSFI as No. 17210.
