OPTIMIZATION OF ANGLES VERSUS DISTANCES ON TRAVERSES
TRAVERSES CONSIST OF ANGLES AND DISTANCES MEASURED WITH COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SETS OF INSTRUMENTS AND USING DIFFERENT FIELD PROCEDURES. A FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION IS WHAT ANGLE MEASURING INSTRUMENT TO USE THAT WILL BE COMPATIBLE WITH THE DISTANCE MEASURING INSTRUMENTATION AND PROCEDURE. THE DIFFERENT COMPATIBILITY CRITERIA BASED UPON ERROR PROPAGATION BEHAVIOR ARE ANALYZED, AND FORMULAS AND TABLES ARE PRESENTED TO DETERMINE THE PRECISION OF THE ANGULAR MEASUREMENT WHEN DISTANCES HAVE BEEN MEASURED WITH TAPE, STADIA, SUBTENSE BAR, AND ELECTROMAGNETIC MEASURING INSTRUMENTS. /AUTHOR/
