STANDARDS FOR PERMISSIBLE LOCAL VIBRATION

A relationship is derived for the permissible amplitudes of bulkhead vibrations in terms of the dimensions of the plates making up these bulkheads for the case where the plates are subjected to cylindrical bending. It is shown that the maximum permissible amplitudes of bulkhead vibrations which should not damage the plates may be determined if the dynamic coefficients for the plates at resonance are known as well as their dimensions. After analyzing experimental data on vibration of bulkheads and plates in various river vessels, the author takes a possible maximum value of the dynamic coefficient for the bottom plates and determines the permissible amplitudes of framing vibrations as a function of the timber-room dimension and the thickness of the plates.
