Traffic management strategies during FIFA world cup 2006 in Hanover (Germany)

Large scale events have a high demand for fleet and traffic management solutions. In this paper results are presented from a new traffic management system which was set up during the FIFA world cup 2006 in Hanover (Germany). Here it was achieved in close co-operation with local public authorities and sponsoring companies to integrate mobile (floating car data) and classical traffic sensor systems to improve traffic and parking guidance. An additional objective was to test potential traffic management scenarios for Beijing's 2008 Olympic Games, where German car maker Volkswagen will be official auto sponsor of the International Olympic Committee.
