GCT2 Pushes the Development of Gauge-Changing Trains
The prototype of Japan's second gauge-changing train (GCT2), a three car EMU, currently is being tested on the Kyushu Shinkansen at speeds of up to 270 km/h. The GCT2 represents more than ten years of research and development, and draws on experiences using the first gauge-changing train (GCT1), a three car EMU completed in October 1998. Discussion includes detail on GCT1, as well as development, testing, and advances toward commercial operation of GCT2.
