Driver Decision Making in Response to Peripheral Moving Targets under Mesopic Light Levels

The paper reports a field study undertaken to measure decision making while driving in intermediate levels of light. Decisions were being made regarding the appropriate response to peripheral moving targets. The two sources of light used include high pressure sodium lights and ceramic metal halide lights. It was found that both acceleration and braking response times decreased monotonically as uniform lighting increased.
