Development of the Shunting Planning Support System
This paper describes how the planning of shunting at the vehicle depot is a complicated job that must take into account many conditions such as the facility-related constraints and rolling stock pooling, which is based on the order of the existing depot. Current planning is done by manual work which takes a lot of time and is far from being made easier. The authors have developed a prototype shunting planning support system to support shunting planning at vehicle depots and have performed functional tests at the Narashino Transport Depot.
