LONG-RANGE TRANSPORTATION PLAN FOR THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT, DALLAS, TEXAS
THE NEED FOR OFF-STREET TRUCK LOADING SPACE IN DALLAS IS COMPELLING. BY 1980, THE CBD WILL REQUIRE 200 TRUCK SPACES TO MEET DAILY PEAKS. TO ACHIEVE THIS THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS ARE RECOMMENDED: PROCEED WITH TRUCK TUNNELS, REVISE ZONING ORDINANCE TO REQUIRE MORE OFF- STREET TRUCK LOADING SPACE IN NEW BUILDINGS THAN PRESENTLY STIPULATED; ENCOURAGE COOPERATIVE TRUCKING OPERATIONS TO OBTAIN MORE EQUITABLE USE OF DIMINISHING AMOUNT OF CURB SPACE WHERE TRUCK LOADING IS PERMISSABLE. IMPROVEMENTS FROM OTHER CITIES INCLUDE: TIME LIMITS ON THE USE OF CURB SPACE, RESTRICTIONS OF HOURS OF TRUCK LOADING OPERATIONS, FREIGHT CONSOLIDATION, ZONING ORDINANCES REQUIRING OFF-STREET TRUCK FACILITIES IN NEW OR REBUILT STRUCTURES, AND A TRUCK TUNNEL AND SUPPLEMENTAL FREIGHT CONVEYOR SYSTEM TO SERVE THE CBD. AN EXTENSIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY AND MUCH DATA ARE GIVEN.
