EVALUATION OF ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR ACHIEVEMENT OF RIVER STANDARDS

A river of approximately 170 mi in length and 3500 sq mi in drainage area was studied to determine the physical characteristics, develop a mathematical simulation model to predict BOD and DO profiles under any condition of flow, temperature, or waste discharge, and application of the model to investigate BOD assimilation capacity under critical weather flow conditions. The effects of sludge deposits, hydroturbine venting, and flow augmentation are determined. The effects of channel geometry, sludge composition, location, depth, oxygen uptake rates, point aeration, river flow, and seiche wave effect were plugged into the model.
