Ultra-low carbon cars - next steps on delivering the £250 million consumer incentive programme for electric and plug-in hybrid cars
Following the publication by the Department for Transport and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills in April 2009 of the document 'Ultra-low Carbon Vehicles in the UK', this document sets out proposals for how the consumer incentive and the Plugged In Places schemes could work and the conditions it is proposed to attach to each element of the scheme. Topics covered include a discussion of the electric vehicle consumer incentive and eligibility criteria in terms of vehicle type, emissions, vehicle performance, safety and vehicle manufacture. The delivery of the subsidy is considered either as a grant or by competitive support to the industry. The aims of the Plugged In Places framework are discussed and access criteria examined including building the local market, implementing technology, consortia funding, the integration of recharging facilities and information sharing.
