Digital Signage Delivers On-the-Spot Information
New LED display technology for buses and digital signs at bus stops that provide information to riders, as well as cell phone technology that provides bus arrival times for individual riders will add riders and save money, according to this article. The author provides descriptions of several manufacturers’ products, such as LED screens for bus shelters and digital signs on buses that have undergone improvements. One firm offers clients in rural areas, where there is little traffic, a low-tech option: heavy aluminum signs with a phone number for riders to call in for arrival time predictions. ADA-compliant push-to-talk products are available for riders who are visually impaired. In addition to providing bus arrival time, some systems allow administrators to send specific messages, in cases of a delay or emergency, to a sign at a stop, as well as to the web to help travelers better plan their trips. The author also notes that most systems are easy and inexpensive to maintain.
