Establishment of ITS Communication System Architecture
This paper discusses the architecture used in intelligent transportation system (ITS) communications design. The author describes and classifies various applications used in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-roadside (V2R) communications. Based on the classification result, 13 various use cases or situations were created. The ITS Communication System Architecture(ITS CSA) was created by analyzing these use cases. Identified components from the analysis of each use case were classified by function type, and then defined and categorized, respectively, and associated with each other. The ITS CSA was established consisting of nearly 100 minor elements that were classified into the five major functional requirements: assistance for safe driving; efficiency, comfort, and convenience; information detection; information provision; and route guidance. The ITS communication system can be presented as an architecture consisting of seven management elements including priority management, management of information accumulation/availability, and security management.
