On measures to support shift to environment-friendly transportation
Toyota City, facing a serious problem of traffic congestion during the commuting period, is carrying out comprehensive measures for smooth traffic flow and reduction in carbon dioxide emission from automobiles, such as improvement of road networks and transport demand management (TDM). This paper touches on two case studies-"Challenge ECO Commuting" and "ECO Local Driver Monitoring"-designed to promote a shift among citizens to environment-friendly transportation on the strength of the internet, and reports on their evaluation. Considering the above results, for those newly starting the ECO commuting, items ascribed to the public conscience as "Environment" is emphasized in consciousness. On the other hand, it is estimated that participants continuously practicing the ECO commuting are apt to strong consciousness for health as individual benefit. "ECO Local Driver Monitoring" led to fuel use decreases among 20% of drivers
