Characterization of NADS Subsystem Transport Delays
Recent enhancements to the National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS) Image Generator necessitated the re-engineering of several of the simulator’s subsystems. In addition, the visual system was also enhanced with the installation of higher resolution projectors. The vendor specifications of the projector transport delay provide numbers that are significantly lower than the old projectors. These changes have the potential of drastically improving the system transport delay; however, empirical measurements are necessary to confirm the projected values. This paper overviews the methodology used to measure the transport delay and provide the measurement results for the transport delay between the control inputs and the various cueing subsystems.
