The Last-minute Approach to Terminal Commissioning: Case Study of Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport
Successful opening of a new terminal requires the completion of 2 key elements: operational readiness prior to opening, and a well planned and managed transition phase. This paper provides insight into the challenges associated with commissioning new terminals, especially when time is in short supply. It describes the last-minute operational readiness and transition approach developed by Hochtief AirPort, the airport management firm. This procedure was first implemented when Warsaw Airport's new terminal began operating in spring 2008.
