Design of Open Telematics Service Based on Open Gateway and Framework: A Service Bundle Approach to Provide an Open Telematics Environment

In this paper, the authors propose a service bundle approach to provide an open Telematics environment. They stress that system developers should design their telematics services to utilize the underlying mobile network. They describe their open telematics system, based on the open gateway and framework, which is independent of a specific mobile network and is interoperable with other telematics systems. The system uses an extended global Telematics protocol (GTP) for mobile office service which can provide a bundle of services for subscribed members. These bundled services can include address book, schedule manager, car care book and adviser, and a mobile office server that includes a computer terminal and access to an Internet service provider (ISP). Through this equipment, users can obtain instant traffic information, fleet management, and parking information, among other options.
