SELECTED SOURCES OF NON-FAREBOX REVENUE FOR METRO: LANDOVER AND HUNTINGTON STATIONS
BEFORE STUDYING WHICH SOURCES OF NON-FAREBOX REVENUE MAY BE APPROPRIATE FOR INCLUSION IN THE METRO SYSTEM, PARTICULARLY AT THE LANDOVER AND HUNTINGTON STATIONS, THE SITUATION AS IT CURRENTLY EXISTS AT EIGHT RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEMS IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA WAS EXAMINED. ALL EIGHT TRANSIT SYSTEMS PERMIT ADVERTISING IN THEIR STATIONS ALTHOUGH SOME FORBID IT IN THEIR CARS. EACH SYSTEM RENTS CONCESSION SPACE IN ITS STATIONS. MOST SYSTEMS HAVE THE NORMAL CONCESSIONS SUCH AS NEWSSTANDS, VENDING MACHINES, TELEPHONES, AND COIN LOCKERS. SOME HAVE A GREATER VARIETY OF CONCESSIONS SUCH AS BANKS, PHARMACIES, HOSIERY BARS, AND EVEN AN EMPLOYMENT AGENCY. ON THE BASIS OF THIS RESEARCH, THE STUDY ANALYZES THE USE OF APPROPRIATE CONCESSIONS FOR THE LANDOVER AND HUNTINGTON STATIONS. /AUTHOR/
