GUIDELINES AND PRINCIPLES FOR DESIGN OF RAPID TRANSIT FACILITIES

In designing structures which are to be used by the public, it is essential that such structures be designed and built to conform to accepted practice, with regard to safety and with regard to adopting the latest technological developments. Similarly, in designing or providing for the supply of equipment, either fixed or moving, it is equally important that such equipment be designed or specified to conform with the safest and best of accepted practices. The purpose of these guidelines and principles is to describe in general terms what is considered to be good practices in rapid transit so that those responsible for designing and planning such facilities may have the benefit of this information. A summary of applicable standards presently in use by rapid transit agencies is also attached in the appendix.
