Enticing Users to Public Transport with Travel Information
This article highlights the "9292" service, which provides digital travel information across the national public transportation network in the Netherlands. 9292 offers comprehensive and integrated travel information about all public transportation services in the country. In 2008, 9292 delivered 92 million travel itineraries, with the Internet site being by far the most popular way to access 9292. In 2007, the service added a multimodal planner on the internet to help provide travelers with modal choices. The 9292 service is financially supported by all Dutch public transportation operators. It is hoped that the 9292 service will win over automobile users who may not otherwise be aware that there is a public transportation alternative to automobile use.
