The Role of Cycle-Rickshaws? A Sustainable Mode of Transport in Old Part of a City
In most of the oldest cities in the world, narrow streets and lanes generally characterize the road network. In Asian countries, intermediate paratransit modes play a very important role. In the south and southeastern Asian countries, there are a significant amount of cycle-rickshaws, acting as a major mode of paratransit. These modes not only do not require fossil fuels, but also provide employment opportunities at a very low capital cost. This mode of transport is therefore increasingly recognized as a major mode of transport in a developing country like in India.
