Large scale delivery of cycle training provides cost effective access for children

This paper describes how cycle training can be cost effectively delivered to large numbers of children in any area. An example will be shown that demonstrates how high-quality cycle training can be defined, taught to instructors and delivered to children in a consistent, quality controlled program. The English system of interlinked cycle training standards will be described for: 1. the formal training and accreditation of instructors, 2. the delivery of all levels of cyclist instruction, including those that cannot yet cycle, and 3. ensuring delivery organisations have the infrastructure, policies, support, processes and procedures in place to deliver a fully comprehensive service. The paper shows how the standards integrate with each other and how they can be delivered to large numbers of schoolchildren. Finally, there is a description of how Cycling Solutions utilises the standards to provide a service which is designed to be as easy for the user as possible. The service is provided in such a way that it is difficult for clients to refuse as the company makes all the bookings, does all the risk management, delivers all the paperwork, provides the training and produces comprehensive reports.
