Survive and Thrive in a Slow Economy
Engineering, architectural, and construction firms are facing the challenges brought on by a weak economy. As a result, firm leaders will have to develop plans that balance cost control with increased marketplace visibility. This article provides eight specific ideas that firms can use to survive and thrive in the current economic downturn. These ideas include: getting everyone in the firm to contribute and to cross-sell services; tweaking operations to peak efficiency levels; being adaptable and versatile; becoming actively involved in key professional and industry associations; creating opportunities for personal contact and cultivating trusted business relationships; contributing educational articles for industry and business publications; maintaining contact with clients and prospects even if they have no immediate work; and going overboard on client service. These strategies can help a company remain healthy during lean times while positioning it to emerge leaner, stronger and better when the economy improves.
