Keeping a check on local roads
Local roads are deteriorating due to a lack of funding for maintenance and from the effect of the number of openings and reinstatements. TRL and Atkins have been awarded the UKPMS/SCANNER Support Contract by the Department for Transport. The purpose of this contract is to support the development of information systems for pavement asset management on local roads, discussed in this article. One key objective of this commission is to provide local authorities with the tools and the knowledge that they can and will use to manage their assets better, and not simply to collect information about road condition.
