RECOMMENDED PRACTICES FOR CORRECTING STEAM POWER PLANT TRIAL PERFORMANCE
Prepared by Panel M-15 ( Heat Balance ) of the Ships Machinery Committee to supplement Bulletin No. 3-11, Recommended Practices for Preparing Marine Steam Power Plant Heat Balances. Use of practices listed in Bulletin No. 3-11 on ships steam power plant in service indicates emphatically the need for standardizing assumptions, allowances, coefficients, and methods of correction, especially during the ships sea trials. Bulletin No. 3-17 recommends methods for correcting observed marine power-plant fuel rates to compensate for deviations from design. The methods presented may be used in correcting trial data obtained in accordance with the SNAME economy endurance and trial code and as agreed to by parties concerned. The new bulletin should be of particular interest to shipbuilders, ship operators and power plant manufacturers.
