PORT MAINTENANCE
The information reflects current port practice on ocean, lake and river ports in the Western Hemisphere, and covers a wide variety of site conditions. Some of this information is taken from reports previously made, which have been refined and brought up to date. It is intended that this book should be used as background for future reports, and that the future reports will be used to amplify this work. The first part of the book is composed of general information which should be of interest to the port administrator. The latter part is more detailed and should be of interest to the maintenance supervisor or engineer. The book is divided into the following chapters: (1) The Maintenance Unit; (2) Maintenance Programs; (3) Budget; (4) Accounting Systems; (5) Preventive Engineering; (6) Piers and Wharves; (7) Buildings; (8) Fire Protection Systems; (9) Pavements; (10) Utilities; (11) Railroad Trackage; and (12) Dredging.
