DEVELOPMENT OF A HIGH SPEED RESCUE BOAT
The development of a unique, experimental, 26 foot, Motor Rescue Boat for the United States Coast Guard is described. The design incorporates a stepped planing hull forward with a hydrofoil supporting the stern while underway. A 250 horsepower, water-jet propulsion system powers the boat to a design speed of 22 knots. This paper provides a brief history of the concept's development and describes the design, construction, and limited testing of a prototype craft.
