A Multi-Objective Approach to Road Network Planning
Interurban highway networks are key components of transportation systems and they play a vital role in modern economies. Given their importance, the transformation of these networks must be carefully planned. This paper will present a multi-objective approach to long-term interurban road network planning. In addition to the efficiency objectives dealt with in the vast majority of the literature where the subject is addressed, the approach presented in this paper takes into account robustness and equity objectives. The application of the approach is illustrated for a case study involving the main road network of Poland.
