REPRODUCTION OF RECORDED OCEAN WAVES IN A SHIP MODEL TOWING TANK
The reproduction of measured irregular seas, or any prescribed water surface time history, in an experimental towing tank is investigated and found to be feasible. The design of an apparatus for computation of a convolution integral, utilizing the original wave record and an artificially produced kernel function, is described in some detail. Such a function, needed as a command signal for an irregular wave generator, can also be obtained by using the towing tank itself as the computing device; mathematical proof of this theory and design fundamentals of a wave maker servo-mechanism are given in this part of the report.
