THE APPLICATION AND FEASIBILITY OF A "MINI DRYDOCK"

The purpose of the proposed "mini Drydock" is to facilitate examination of the underwater portions of a floating ship, the making of certain repairs, and the cleaning and painting of portions of the ship's bottom. The mini drydock would prospectively reduce cost over conventional dry-docking by saving on towing and docking charges and would reduce ship time in conventional drydocks because the floating ship could be inspected and repaired while unloading its cargo. The economical advantages of the mini drydock versus a conventional drydock are weighed to determine the economical feasibility of using the mini drydock for hull cleaning, inspecting and painting.
