CONCRETE PAVEMENTS - POROUS CONCRETE HARD SHOULDERS FOR EMERGENCY STOPS - MATERIAL STUDY
CHAUSSEES EN BETON - LES BANDES D'ARRET D'URGENCE EN BETON POREUX - ETUDE DU MATERIAU
The increased use in France since 1975 of porous concrete hard shoulders (100 km in two years) along rigid pavements is simultaneous with research on that material. This article outlines the more recent results concerning the selection of compaction methods, the behaviour of porous concrete in presence of pure water and its resistance to fatigue. The results are satisfactory on the whole and demonstrate that this material can be effectively used for constructing a drainage system for the lateral drainage of water at the slab/foundation interface.
