10 Great Transit Systems to Work For
This article profiles ten top transit agency employers in the U.S. The transit systems were selected based on open-ended survey responses from employees. A list of shared attributes of the top ten is included, with attributes ranging from an open-door policy among mangers and work-schedule flexibility, to the lack of micro-management and opportunities for employee advancement. A profile is given for each transit system, including employment data showing the total number of employees as well as the turnover rate for 2007. The districts include: 1) Alexandria Transit Company (DASH), Alexandria, VA; 2) Capital Area Transit Authority, Lansing, MI; 3) Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, Urbana, IL; 4) Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority, Dayton, OH; 5) Greater Hartford Transit District, Hartford, CN; 6) GRTC Transit System, Richmond, VA; 7) Orange County Transportation Authority, Orange, CA; 8) Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas, NV;9) Riverside Transit Agency, Riverside, CA; and, 10) SunLine Transit Agency, Thousand Palms, CA.
