The Utah Transit Authority's FrontLines 2015 Program: On the Right Track
In response to strongly expressed desires from the community for an accelerated program of improved public transportation services along the Wasatch Front, Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is advancing an aggressive and extensive capital development program. The major component of the UTA capital development program is the construction of four light rail lines in Salt Lake County, and a commuter rail line between Provo and Salt Lake City. The FrontLines 2015 Program will add 25 new miles of light rail transit (LRT) to the existing 20 miles of LRT (known as TRAX) in the Salt Lake County LRT network. It will also add 45 more miles of commuter rail, extending the current 44-mile commuter rail line (known as FrontRunner) between Weber County and downtown Salt Lake City south to Provo. In addition, as each rail transit line is completed, appropriate revisions in the bus network will be made, to create a fully connected and integrated public transit system. Each project is unique, and each project delivery method can be tailored to focus on the specific positives and negatives, each special risk, for each project. The Utah Transit Authority found that tailoring each project delivery method to each particular project provides UTA with the best opportunity to deliver projects early and under budget, with a high quality, a legacy that UTA intends to continue for the people living on the Wasatch Front.
