BRIDGE PROBLEMS STILL EXIST, BUT HELP IS ON THE WAY
Bridge problems have not gone away, but the promise is there for solutions, glowing somewhat brighter. The passage by the House and Senate of a compromise surface transportation bill, and the signing of that bill by the President, allows for an average of $1.05 billion a year for bridges over the next four years. That the monetary need is great is evidenced by the problems and bridge needs facing a number of states, which the article discusses for Iowa, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, South Dakota, New York and Rhode Island.
