HIGHWAY PLANNING FROM THE FORESTRY VIEWPOINT
STRASSENPLANUNG AUS FORSTLICHER SICHT
In the discussion of highway planning, forestry authorities advance the interests of their forests. Their arguments are based on legal criteria and planning fundamentals which may nowadays be presented in a differentiated fashion and a manner which for the highway planner is better and identifiable at an earlier stage. The report puts forward the most important arguments dealing with such questions as, how the maintenance of the forest can be ensured for possible alignments of highways within and outside the forest area. The main functions of the forests in society are based on economical and property structure foundations and are outlined in the official forest function maps, which are of decisive importance as an aid to the highway planner. The author appeals for a careful expert consideration of the forestry reports and hopes for an early adaptation of the design specifications for highway construction to the increased environmental consciousness of the road users. /TRRL/
