Light duty passenger vehicles - in-service vehicle testing programme 2006-07
European legislation prescribes exhaust emissions limits for all passenger cars produced for sale within the European Union. These limits have tightened over a number of years and current new vehicles must meet Euro 4 emissions standards. The directive also prescribes that passenger vehicles must continue to meet the relevant emissions limits for a duration of In-Service use. Manufacturers are required to carry out In-Service compliance testing of suitable vehicles and to submit this data to their type approval authority, which in the UK is the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). The VCA also collect independent information to monitor compliance and, as such they have completed a number of programmes to gather data on the In-Service compliance of a range of passenger vehicles. For a total of A total of 39 vehicles, this report details the In-Service test procedure, includes test results and discussion, and ends with further work and conclusions.
