Report of Evaluation of Rails Sections
This report presents a continuation of the engineering and economic evaluation of 115 vs 132 lb. continuous welded rail and is prepared under a research agreement between the Great Northern Railway Company (now the Burlington Northern) and the University of Illinois for the period 1 February 1968 to31 January 1970. An evaluation of the strength-capacity characteristics of various rail sections is contained in a report submitted a year ago. This second report has made an initial economic evaluation of 115 lb. RE vs 132 lb. RE rail sections. It is hoped that this study can be continued and expanded to cover additional rail weights and economic relations.
