RECENT TRENDS IN STRUCTURAL FIRE PRECAUTION MEASURES WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO QE2

The ship was built to the latest international requirements for a Method II ship but in addition, meets all the recommendations of the IMCOCommittee and most of the present requirements for a Method I ship, i.e. a ship without an automatic sprinkler system. Details are given for incombustible, flame-retardant and smoke-minimizing materials used, fire bulkheads, escape stairways and alleyways, draft stops, problems arising from an aluminum superstructure, ventilation system, closures for fire doors, problems in obtaining an attractive decor, and suggestions for improvements in fire laws and regulations.
