Permit schemes provide a new way to manage activities in the public highway. They were introduced by Part 3 of the Traffic Management Act 2004 (TMA) to improve authorities' abilities to minimise disruption from street and highway works. This Code of Practice provides guidance intended to help a common approach to the operation of permit schemes, and is divided into 21 chapters.
