Supporting Westcroft Bridge
The Westcroft Bridge was proposed as an integral bridge with an open appearance which would be an appropriate aesthetic form of construction for the location. This project was to be the first time in the UK that this form of bridge design had been used, i.e. a bridge supported on sheet pile boxes using column piles cast into the deck soffits. The article gives details of site considerations, bridge form and articulation, and construction.
