Rivermen's Lingo
Individuals working on the rivers of the United States consider themselves "rivermen" or "brown water sailors", distinct from those working on the oceans or "blue waters". A unique vocabulary exists which distinguishes rivermen from blue water men. Distinct words are discussed. Inserts provide definitions of terms used by rivermen, as well as the origin of the name Mark Twain, pseudonym of author Samuel Clemens.
