Crossing Over: The Bridge Program in the Western Rivers
Every bridge on the Western River system has had to be authorized by the federal government. The United States Coast Guard (USCG) Bridge Administration Program deals with all aspects of bridge regulation, and establishes required horizontal and vertical clearances that bridges provide. The ability of bridges to impede waterway navigation, bridge construction/alteration, the Truman-Hobbs Act, and continuing navigational improvement are examined by the author. Historical aspects of bridge engineering and technology along the Western Rivers are examined.
