Vehicle-Vehicle Channel Models for the 5-GHz Band

This paper presents a modeling campaign and channel measurement scheme to apply to vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) 5GHz band infrastructure. Many aspects of this band are described, including propagation, fading, correlations for multiple V2V environments, delay spread, and amplitude statistics. A development statistical channel model is also discussed in terms of its application to V2V and simulation results between different channel models are analyzed in order to describe tensions between signal fidelity and model implementation complexity. Data were collected using impulse response estimates of V2V at 5GHz. The researchers found that, in simulation testing, the nonstationary (persistence processes) was a channel model that of greater representational fidelity than the compared model that used a wise-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) assumption.
