The transportation security challenge
Due to growing terrorism in society the security field has raised an increasing attention during recent years. For example in US, the Homeland Security Department is coordinating a large number of security research programmes and in the European Union new security research activities are also initiated in the FP7 programme. A specific segment of security is the transportation area which has been shown to be a vulnerable target for terror, theft and crime acts. Motivated by this increasing society focus, Volvo AB has initiated some research activities within this area. This presentation gives a global perspective of the key drivers and threats in this area. Moreover the wanted future capabilities for obtaining secure network-based vehicles are analysed and presented. The capability of obtaining interoperable and secure information exchange between different users and systems are also discussed (A). For the covering abstract of the conference see ITRD E212343.
