Development of an Approach to Facilitate Optimal Equipment Replacement

The principle objective of this study was to develop a procedure using available departmental data on operation, maintenance and replacement costs to provide the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development with guidelines for the identification of equipment with a high priority for replacement. It was desired, further, to specify a required funding to bring the department's equipment pool current. The objectives of the study were accomplished. A procedure for the assignment of priorities for equipment replacement is specified in the body of the report. The funding required to bring all equipment within an optimal operating cost area is estimated to be in the range of 36-42 million dollars.
